There have been various series of games that have been a decade old now but to whom we are really attached whether be it game-play or just plain nostalgia, they all have something of their own that sets them apart from the others.

Assassin’s Creed

An action-adventure-stealth video game mainly developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Assassins Creed was released in 2007. The Assassin Creed series contains eight main games with a couple of supporting materials. The game revolves around a bartender named Desmond Miles who is captured by the Abstergo Industries and is forced to use the ‘Animus’, a device that allows him to experience ancestral memories and learn about the way of the assassins and also gain information about the historical artifacts or Pieces of Eden to ensure the survival of the planet. The game mainly depicts the long know war between the Templars and the Assassins and how they sabotage each other goals to gain the upper hand. The sequels have progressed further from the main theme as more and more sequels got released. The games have appeared on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, iOS, HP webOS, Android, Nokia Symbian Windows Phone platforms, and the Wii U.

The Sims

Sims has been around for nearly 14 years and the first title was merely a simple game as compared to the current version of it. The developers have evolved the game quite a lot since its release and you can experience better graphics, better controls and many other things to your liking as compared to the first title. The game has been amongst one of the most successful video game series of all times with about 175 million copies sold worldwide since the inception. The game is available on Microsoft Windows, OS X, iOS and various other consoles.

War Thunder

An action based online combat game with single and multiplayer modes, War Thunder comprises of airplanes, tanks and ships from the Korean and Spanish Civil War era. The game has its grace and beauty as you fly through the sky to carry out your missions. The game has its lags and bugs but it really puts you at the center of the dogfight and how you strategically strike the enemy planes down is quite exhilarating. The game is currently available on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Play Station 4.

Dark Souls

Developed by From Software, this action packed role playing game which uses death as means of teaching the user as to how to overcome difficult obstacles and react in hostile environments and thus using the previous experiences as a means of overcoming the difficulty levels. As the player kills an enemy, he receives a relative amount of souls which act as both currency and experience points. Dark Souls has been made available on Play Station 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.

Outlast

A first person survival horror game, the game is set in psychiatric hospital environment which is full of homicidal patients and the players have to navigate through the facility without the help of any weapons. Sliding and hiding under beds and vaulting over obstacles, the game progresses as the protagonist scavenges through the manila folders and records everything through his camcorder. Published and released by Red Barrels, the game is available on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and Play Station 4.

Dragon’s Lair

A laser disc based game released in 1983, it was a huge success with over 30 million sales in the first 40 days of its release. The game is based around the character Dirk, a knight, who attempts to free the Princess Daphne from an evil dragon. Due to the hardware limitations of that era the graphics are not much but in the 21st century it has been made available as a historic game.

Battlefield 3

First person shooter video game developed by EA Digital Illusions CE, Battlefield 3 is the 11th installment in the Battlefield franchise. The players undergo several military roles and carry out missions across various parts of the world following the stories of Sergeant Blackburn and Mayakovsky. With single and multiplayer modes, the game is available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Call of Duty

A first person and third person shooter video game with the earlier games series set in World War II and the most recent version covering the modern times and is set in near future environments. Its success can be estimated by this that it had 40 million online users in 2012. The most recent Call of Duty: Ghosts was released in Nov’2013 and is available across many platforms including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, 3 & 4, Xbox One & 360, iOS, OS X, Android and Blackberry.

Grand Theft Auto

GTA is multi-genre game covering role-playing, action, adventure and racing. Modeled in fictional localities, the game is based in an environment where the player chooses the mission he wants to carry out which in turn progresses the whole storyline. Criticized for its adult and violent content, the game is available across various consoles and platforms. The latest release in GTA franchise is of the GTA: San Andreas Mobile which was released in Jan’2014

New Super Mario Bros 2

A direct sequel to New Super Mario Bros, this side scrolling platform video game was published by Nintendo. The plot is the same as the previous ones where Mario and Luigi put their efforts in rescuing the Princess. The game has been currently made available only on Nintendo 3DS hand-held console and has sold around 7.63 million copies worldwide as of Dec’2013.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

An action based role-playing game published by Bethesda Softworks, this is the fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls series. Revolving around the concept of defeating the great dragon Alduin, who is prophesied to destroy the world one day. The player has to undertake quests and improve their skills and can go anywhere in the world with the added benefit of ignoring or postponing the main storyline of the game. Developed using the in-house Creation Engine, the game is available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
