Systems of the Human Body with interactive GIFs

The human body consists of many interacting systems. Each system contributes to the maintenance of itself, other systems, and the entire body.

A system consists of two or more organs, which are functional collections of tissue. The systems of the human body do not work in isolation, and the well-being of the person depends upon the well-being of all the interacting body systems. Some combining systems are referred to by their joint names such as the nervous system and the endocrine system known together as the neuro-endocrine system.

1) Nervous System

The nervous system is comprised of central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nervous system. The system enables the detection and processing of sensory information. Furthermore it also activates bodily responses.

2) Circulatory System

The system of comprises the heart and blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries). The circulatory system delivers oxygen and nutrients to the tissue and equalizes the body temperature.

3) Respiratory system

The respiratory system consists of the nose, nasopharynx, trachea, and lungs. It provides oxygen to the blood and removes carbon dioxide from the body.

4) Digestive system

The digestive system is comprised of mouth as well as the small and large intestines, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and salivary glands. The digestive system processes food for use by the body and removes wastes from the undigested food.

5) Urinary system

The urinary system consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. This system removes wastes from the blood and excretes them from the body. It also helps in controlling water balance in the body.

6) Immune system

This system comprises of white blood cells, the thymus, lymph nodes and lymph channels, which are also part of the lymphatic system. The immune system provides a mechanism for the body to distinguish its own cells and tissues from alien cells and substances and to neutralize or destroy the latter by using specialized proteins.

7) Endocrine system

The endocrine system consists of the principal endocrine glands: the pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, pancreas, parathyroids, and gonads, but nearly all organs and tissues produce specific endocrine hormones as well. The system secretes hormones and regulates body processes. The animation shows the hormones secreted by different organs of the endocrine system.
